Rajahmundryb (AP) | Feb 10, 2013
A case has been registered against Andhra Pradesh CPI secretary Dr K Narayana for allegedly entering illegally into a thermal power plant site and damaging the equipment there, police said today.
Narayana came here on Friday to see the persons who were injured when some people hurled stones during a public hearing on the 100 MW coal-based thermal power plant in East Godavari district of the state.
He then led his party workers to the site where the plant is coming up and allegedly removed the survey stones and put up the party flag.
A generator and a JCB machine were allegedly damaged by the activists and a drum containing 200 litres of diesel was also set ablaze, police said.
A case was registered against Narayana last evening under relevant sections for illegal entry into the site and damaging the equipment there, Bikkavolu sub-inspector Thrimurthulu said.
Meanwhile, East Godavari District Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad postponed the public hearing on the plant.
During the public hearing on February 6, some people allegedly disrupted the proceedings and pelted the officials present there with stones in which a revenue official was injured.
Police had to later disperse the mob.
The management of the KPR industries had claimed that the thermal plant was being set up as per the norms and guidelines of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Board and it would pose no harm to the people in the district.
Some people had alleged that the setting up of the power plant would create several problems like air and water pollution and other health-related issues.
