One person was arrested for allegedly raping a woman at Kumrodha village, 16 km from Rewari.

The accused identified as Vicky (25) was produced in a local Court which sent him to 14-day judicial custody, police said.

26-year-old woman yesterday lodged a complaint with the police alleging rape by Vicky on February 14.

She said the accused had threatened her of dire consequences if she lodged complaint against him.

The police got the woman medically examined in the civil hospital here last evening after which her swabs were sent to the Forensic State Laboratory at Madhuban ( Karnal) for chemical examination.

In another incident, a Delhi-based woman was allegedly raped by an unidentified man in Faridabad after he offered to drop her near her home in his car, police said today.

The incident happened on Wednesday when the victim, a resident of Devli Khanpur area in Delhi, was returning home after meeting her husband's friend in Faridabad, a police official said.

A case was registered yesterday against the accused on the complaint filed by the woman, he added.

According to the complaint, the woman was waiting for a bus to Delhi at Bata Mod on GT Road on Wednesday evening, when an unidentified man in a silver colour-car stopped beside her and offered to drop her to Khanpur Devli area in Delhi in return of fare.

The driver, however, changed route and turned the car towards Ballabgarh on the pretext of taking a short cut. The man then took the victim to a forest area and raped her there.

The woman, who had fainted during the ordeal, found herself lying near a bridge after regaining consciousness, the official said adding, she then contacted her friend using mobile phone of a motorcyclist and was dropped home by the friend.

Investigations into the case are in progress, police said.

Uttarakhand

A minor girl was allegedly raped by a man at a village in Uttarakhand's Udhamsingh Nagar district.

45-year-old Bhagwan Das raped a 12-year-old girl at Bari village near Kiccha in Udhamsingh Nagar district yesterday, police sources here said.

The medical examination of the victim has confirmed rape, they said adding the accused has been arrested.

Madurai

Two teachers of a government school at Kulamangalam village of the district were arrested today for allegedly sexually harassing eighth standard girl students.

The Police said they were acting on a complaint from the district secretary of All India Democratic Women's Association S K Ponnuthai.

They said an initial enquiry has established a prima facie evidence but did not divulge further details.

Punjab

A youth was arrested today for allegedly trying to rape an elderly woman here when she had gone to attend the nature's call.

Avtar Singh, a resident of Dadheri village, attempted to sexually assault the 78-year-old of the same village yesterday, police said.

An FIR under relevant Sections of the IPC was lodged against him at the Mandi Gobindgarh police station on a complaint by victim's relative, they said.
