Apologise, Reinstate Aijaz Ahmed Mirza in DRDO: Katju

Press Council Chairperson Markandey Katju has demanded that the government reinstate DRDO scientist Aijaz Ahmed Mirza who was arrested on terror charges but released on bail as the National Investigation Agency did not file a charge sheet against him.

In a letter written to Defence Minister A K Antony and Karnataka Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar, Katju said that if there is no evidence against Mirza, he should be reinstated and given adequate compensation, besides an open apology by central and state governments.

"I would request you to look into this matter immediately, and if it is true that there is no evidence against Aijaz Ahmed Mirza, he should be reinstated forthwith on the post he was holding before he was sacked, otherwise a wrong message will be sent throughout the country that Muslims are terrorists and are fair game for being persecuted and victimised by the communal forces," the PCI Chief said in his letter.

Katju said that he had already issued a press note criticising the false implication of Muslims in bomb blast cases. He also said that Mirza had in a TV interview said that he was tortured and made to suffer indignities in jail.

"Hence I request you to ensure that apart from reinstating him, adequate compensation is awarded to him by the central and state government and an open apology is issued by central and state government to Aijaz Ahmed," Katju said.

To

1. The Hon'ble Defence Minister oflndia,
Shri A.K. Antony,
9, Krishna Menon Marg,
New Delhi.

2. The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Karnataka,
Bangalore.

Dear Sir,

Re: Aijaz Ahmed Mirza

It has come to my knowledge that one Aijaz Ahmed Mirza, a D.R.D.O. scientist of Bangalore, was sacked on the ground that he was implicated in the Hyderabad bomb blast case. lt was reported recently in the media that no evidence has been found against him by the N.I.A. which has declined to file a charge sheet against him.

I would request to you look into this matter immediately, and if it is true that there is no evidence against Aijaz Ahmed Mirza, he should be reinstated forthwith on the post he was holding before he was sacked, otherwise a wrong message will be sent throughout the country that Muslims are terrorists and are fair game for being persecuted and victimized by the communal forces.

ln my Press Note issued yesterday I had strongly criticized the false implication of a large number of Muslims in bomb blast and other terrorist attack cases.

Aijaz Ahmed was kept in jail for six months, and according to his TV interview by Rajdeep Sardesai on CNN- IBN channel he was tortured and made to suffer all kinds of indignities in jail. Hence l request you ensure that apart from reinstating him, adequate compensation is awarded to him by the Central/State Government and an open apology is issued by the Central/State Government to Aijaz Ahmed.

All this should be done at the earliest, otherwise the secular foundation of our country as provided for in our Constitution shall be shaken to the core.

With regards,

Yours sincerely,

(Markandey Katju)

Ramki,

>> "Mr Katju: I am doing it best, have a big ambition.. nothing can stop me."

Why don't you write plainly, e.g. "You support A Muslim scientist? How dare you?"

The failure of Indias judicial system is amply loud and clear in both the sacking, and in Katjus anguish. A compensation of a few million would have been normal in these circumstances in a secular country.

Also interesting, is that while a male is sacked, females are being preferred in police recruitment.

The failure of the Indian state is imminent.

Justice Katju, in his private capacity, is indeed becoming the voice of conscience in India. - Anwaar

While I sometimes (not often) agree with Katju's views, I disagree with his right to air them. He is a paid Chairman of a statutory body and holds a quasi judicial position. He therefore, has no private capacity.

If Katju considers such restraint an unreasonable restriction on his right to freedom of speech, he should cast off the shackles by resigning his position.

Mr Katju (on a weekend dinner with his wife).. : Hey Dear, how is it going..

Mrs Katju (handling delicately a dish of beef which secular Katju loves so much) : Great.. Your decibel is adequate enough to gather attention and sure you are a contender for next VP/Prez polls.

Mr Katju : Oh.. but hey that should not be empty flattery.. pls give me genuine feedback. I anyway am going to buy that diamond necklace next sunday...

Mrs Katju (frowning): Comeon Boy you are so stupid.. it is in my self interest too that we live life king style in Rashtrapathi bhavan ..

Mr Katju: I am doing it best, have a big ambition.. nothing can stop me (stops talking to chew on the beef patty)..

BTW, how good is dinners at Rashtrapathi Bhavan ? I hope they serve good quality steak.. and they should, we are SHEKKULAR Nation right..

Mrs Katju : As a Prez we will be going to all possible nations on the world. Surely we should try to go to Argentina.. and latam and eat anything we can lay hands on..

Mr Katju: Ah, right.. that is always there.. madame prathiba showed how one must be always travelling..

Mrs katju: Only thing is you will be burdened with petty things like the petitions for those sentenced to death..

Mr Katju : Ah stop.. I have another 4 years, i will yell louder and louder to get rid  of capital punishment. I dont want to sit on those petitions and harm my second term..

Mrs Katju : What second term.. are you writing some exam or..

Mr Katju : Baby, you are so clueless. I am going to be the Prez in 2017, but that is not enough, I want to be reelected in 2022 as well..

Mrs Katju : Ah, that is a huge load of ambition.. but good for us.. but that means, more hard work.. finish your dinner fast, and start writing letters to whom you target...

Mr Katju: Yeah, right baby.you reminded me.. My next letter is to AP police telling why Owasi should be released from jail. His amazing command on urdu is why we should release. His fiery speeches are inspiring any secularist like me..

Mrs Katju : hmm....

lack of evidence in terror cases is the norm ....but one must have people in organisations like DRDO who would consider nation first and everything last.....we don't know if this Mirza fits the bill or he like many would say my religion first and nation is fine as long as it does not come in conflict with religion!
