Uproar in Parliament Over DSP's Murder in UP

Parliament was paralysed for the second day today with members raising a host of issues ranging from demand for President's rule in Uttar Pradesh over "deteriorating" law and order to the plight of ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha could not transact any business because of the continuous uproar.

Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day at noon after one adjournment, while Rajya Sabha witnessed two adjournments till 2 PM when it was adjourned for the day.

As soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day, BSP, SP, Left and AIADMK members stormed the Well over issues including law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh in the wake of the killing of a DSP, over which BSP and SP members shouted slogans against each other.

Tamil MPs raised the issue of plight of Sri Lankan Tamils. DMK members were in black shirt to register their protest while AIADMK MPs raised slogans carrying placards saying "Save Tamils in Sri Lanka".

Other issues that disrupted the proceedings in the Lower House included the rape of a tribal woman in West Bengal and beating up of a woman by police in Punjab. The issue of MNS activists thrashing North Indians in Maharashtra was also raised in the Upper House.

Members from Left parties raised slogans against Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal over the law and order situation and the rape of a tribal woman in the state. They held placards saying "West Bengal is unsafe for women".

Rajya Sabha witnessed repeated adjournments over the Uttar Pradesh issue with BSP aggressively raising the killing of the DSP by a mob on Saturday and a minister resigning after he was named by the victim's widow.

Lok Sabha plunged into turmoil soon after Speaker Meira Kumar welcomed a Parliamentary delegation from Macedonia led by Trajko Veljanoski.

Some Congress members from Punjab were seen in the Well raising slogans against the Akali Dal government in the state over the incident of police beating up a woman and her aged father who were complaining of molestation.

Partap Singh Bajwa, Ravneet Singh and Santosh Chowdhary (all Cong) were in the Well waving copies of newspapers and raising slogans. Senior leader Girija Vyas was seen urging them to protest from the aisle.

Amid din, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the House till noon.

In the Rajya Sabha, it was trouble from the word go with BSP, AIADMK and JU-U members refusing to take their seats when the House was called to order and raised the UP law and order situation, situation of Tamils in Sri Lanka and MNS activists thrashing North Indians in Maharashtra.

Chairman Hamid Ansari asked members to take their places as there was a reference from the Chair but the members did not heed, forcing him to adjourn the House till noon.

When the House reassembled, similar scenes were witnessed with BSP storming the Well and SP following them, alleging a conspiracy against its government in UP. The House was then adjourned till 2 PM.

Similar scenes were witnessed when the House reassembled, prompting Deputy Chairman P J Kurien to adjourn it for the day.

>> Raja Bhaiya is a democratically elected MLA having won election five times in a row. So what if he has cases against him. Has he been convicted? So he is innocent in the eyes of law.

While your post was funny, if you are even remotely serious about it, you might want to consider the following

1. Bhaiya has been booked for the crime. This is in marked contrast to the other case you are slyly referring.
2. He has not been convicted, and he's not being called a murderer (yet). He has only resigned from the cabinet, which is a long, established process.
3. He hasn't (again, yet), resigned as an MLA. At least I'm aware of only one instance in which a member resigned as an MP/MLA after being booked. That was Advani, when he was booked in the Jain Hawala case. In fact, he not only resigned, but said that he won't contest elections till he is cleared. Given the pace at which cases proceed in our courts, it was a huge commitment, particularly for a potential PM candidate

If you are aware of anyone else who has taken such a "Bhishma Pratigya" in recent times, let me know.

>> Calling Raja Bhaiya names has become the favourite pastime of jihadis, anarchists, activists, seculars, pinkos. twisted retards and other assorted antinationals who have little respect for the rule of law.

So, according to you, the description "jihadis, anarchists, activists, seculars, pinkos. twisted retards and other assorted antinationals who have little respect for the rule of law", applies to BSP?
