The Rape Report: Sudden Spurt in Cases Again
Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh
A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth when she was returning from the fields after giving lunch to her father, police said today.
The victim was raped by Ashok Kumar yesterday at Jaibhagwan village near the sugarcane fields, police said.
The father of the girl has lodged an FIR and police has registered a case against Kumar, who is absconding.
In another related incident, a minor was allegedly raped by a shopkeeper at Nagal village yesterday.
A man has been arrested for allegedly raping his two minor daughters in the city, police said today.
Roshan Naresh Ghodeswar (40), a history sheeter from Madhya Pradesh who had settled in a north-west city locality sometime back, raped his 16-year-old daughter in July last year and later sexually assaulted the other 14-year-old girl, police said.
The girls' mother had left Roshan following which he had married another woman.
The girls confided in their step-mother that the accused used to rape them at knife-point, police said.
Yesterday, the victims, accompanied by their step mother, lodged a complaint with Koradi Police who later arrested Ghodeswar.
Offences under relevant sections of IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 have been registered against the accused, police added.
A court in Pauri sentenced a man to seven years in prison for raping a mentally challenged girl over a year ago.
Pauri District and Sessions Judge Kumkum Rani sentenced Mukesh alias Mukki to seven years' imprisonment yesterday after he pleaded guilty of raping the 20-year-old victim on January 14 last year.
A fine of Rs 10,000 was also imposed on the convict, public prosecutor K P Dangwal said.
The mentally challenged girl was raped by Mukesh, a resident of Mallirain, when she was returning home all alone from the market place, he said.
A motorcyclist allegedly molested a young woman and tore her clothes in public here after their vehicles collided, police said today.
The woman was on a two-wheeler with her aunt when her vehicle hit Hasan's motorcycle in Nizamuddin area yesterday, they said.
An argument ensued and Hasan misbehaved with the women.
When the victim objected, he molested her and tore her clothes, police said.
24-year-old Hasan was arrested and a case registered against him.
A youth was allegedly humiliated in full public view by a group of people, who blackened his face and forced him to take a ride on a donkey after the girl of their family, with whom he had eloped, accused him of rape.
The incident took place yesterday in Kotwali area of the district, SP Umesh Dutta said, adding that two persons have been arrested in this connection.
"His face was painted black and he was forced to take ride on donkey by the relatives of the girl," Dutta said.
Meanwhile, the police are also investigating charges of rape levelled by the girl, he said.
The 23-year-old had eloped with the girl of his locality on February 26, but the duo had came back after being called by the latter's family members.
Two persons were today arrested on charges of raping a minor in Tilkudih village of Palamu district.
The accused identified as Manish Kumar Singh and Vinod Kumar Singh allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl, who had gone to a nearby pond to wash clothes on Friday last, police said.
The arrest was made after a FIR was lodged on the statement of the victim today.
The girl had narrated the incident when she returned home but the family was reluctant to lodged an FIR initially.
However, they have decided to punish the culprits and lodge the FIR, sources said adding that the victim girl has been sent to Medininagar Sadar Hospital for medical check-up.
Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab
A local court today sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for repeatedly raping his sister in 2006.
The court convicted Mandeep Sharma, a resident of Mandi Gobindgarh, and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
In default of payment of fine, he will have to further undergo a sentence of 10 years, the court said.
The case was registered in December last year when Sharma's sister approached police and accused him of repeatedly raping her.
The 28-year-old woman told the police that she was married to a youth of Sangrur district and had two children.
In 2006, her brother visited her in-laws house and raped her, prosecution said, adding that when she approached her husband, he snapped all ties with her and she was forced to live with her brother.
Two minor girls, sisters by relation, were allegedly gang-raped and killed in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, police said today.
Bodies of the tribal girls aged four and six years were retrieved today from beneath the ground near a pond at Raupada village under Badampahar police station area, about 105 km from here.
The two victims had been missing for the past two days.
Police suspected the minor girls were gang raped before being killed. Their bodies were sent for postmortem.
The police have registered a case under section 376 (g) (gang rape) and 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.
It was suspected that several people of the same village were involved but only one of them was named in the FIR. That person is absconding, the sources said.
