UP Assembly: Ruckus Over Central Fund for Maha Kumbh
Unruly scenes and counter-allegations between Congress and BJP members on central assistance for the Mahakumbh in Allahabad forced adjournment of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha for half-an-hour today.

Levelling charges against the state government through a question of propriety during the Zero Hour, Congress member Akhilesh Pratap Singh said that the House was misled last week about central assistance not being provided on time for the Maha Kumbh.

Presenting date wise details, Singh said that around Rs 1,200 crores were provided for organising the Maha Kumbh and demanded that the state government express regret over its statement.

Responding to the allegation, state Parliamentary Affairs minister Azam Khan retorted that the funds were provided much later, only after the requests of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Supporting Singh's demand, Pramod Tewari (Cong) claimed that no other government at the Centre had provided such a hefty amount for the Maha Kumbh in the past.

Hukum Singh's (BJP) sarcastic remarks that the "earnings of various scams" were extended towards organising the Maha Kumbh, saw the Congress and BJP members comimg down in the well and trading charges at each other.

With both sides not heeding to requests, the Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey adjourned the House for half-an-hour in two phases.

Later, when the proceedings resumed, the Opposition members raised several issues, including payment of arrears of college teachers and murder of two bank employees in Agra.
