Divisions surfaced in the Sangh Parivar with RSS today refusing to accept Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde's regret over his 'Hindu terror' remark even though BJP has treated the matter closed.

"Shinde Jaipur comments were derogatory (a)n(d) defamatory. He merely regretted. He shud h(a)v(e) apologised. Also shud h(a)v(e) condemned Pak terrorists....," RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav tweeted.

Madhav said Shinde should have at least said "sorry" for his remarks made in Jaipur a month ago, which had triggered a confrontation between him and Sangh Parivar with BJP threatening to boycott him.

The RSS spokesperson's comments are at divergence with the stand of BJP which has accepted Shinde's regret.

"The party has decided to end the matter on Shinde," BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said when asked about RSS seeking an apology instead of a regret.

In an effort to avert a confrontation in Parliament, Shinde yesterday issued a statement, expressing regret over his 'Hindu terror' remark and saying his comment has been misunderstood.

Shinde, who is also Leader of the Lok Sabha, said he had no intention to link terrorism with any religion or political organisation.

After his statement, BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "We accept this regret from the Home Minister but this ought to have come much earlier.."

Refusing to accept Shinde's regret, RSS spokesman said his comments had caused damage to India and given strength to those against the country but he did not say a single word about them.

"A mere regret won't satisfy our cadres," Madhav told PTI, saying Shinde's remarks were derogatory and objectionable which have hurt the Sangh and its cadres.

The RSS spokesperson said we are not opposed to BJP accepting the regret expressed by the Home Minister over his "Hindu terror" remarks and had not demanded any apology from him.

In another tweet, Madhav hit out at the Union Home Secretary R K Singh, saying, "Can we expect the Home Secretary to again defend his boss as he did after Jaipur and state that his statement was also not based on facts?"
