The Rape Report: Minors Continue to Get Victimised
Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh
Two persons have been arrested for allegedly gangraping and abetting suicide of a 21-year-old Dalit girl who attempted to end her life by jumping in front of a moving train, police said.
Kallu and Rajender were arrested from Barsi village in Shamli district yesterday after the victim was critically injured on jumping before a train on the Delhi-Saharanpur railway line near Alem railway station, police said.
She was admitted to Meerut Medical College in a serious condition, they said.
An 85-year-old man was today arrested for allegedly molesting an eight-year-old girl here, police said.
Sitaram Bachate lured the girl with some money and sweets when she was playing outside her house at a slum colony in Kalwa town of Thane yesterday at around 3 PM, police said.
The accused took her to his house where he allegedly molested her, they said.
The girl later told her parents about the offence following which her father filed a complaint against Bachate.
Subsequently, Bachate was arrested.
The accused has been booked under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC and section 95 of Protection of Children Act, 2012.
A 22-year-old girl was injured as she jumped out of a moving autorickshaw after a man allegedly tried to molest her here, police said today.
The girl, working as a software engineer, hired a shared autorickshaw to Ameerpet from Madhapur hi-tech city at around 7.45 PM yesterday, a senior police official of Cyberabad Police Commissionerate said.
While three-four of the co-passengers got off at their destinations on way, a man seated with her tried to hold her hand when the vehicle was near Gachibowly. The autorickshaw driver also took another direction instead of proceeding towards Ameerpet, he said.
Realising that something was amiss, the girl jumped out of the autorickshaw and sent an SMS to her friend, who alerted police, the official said.
A passerby, who found the girl lying on the road near Gachibowly, took her to a nearby hospital and he too called the police.
The girl suffered head injuries and was admitted to a hospital, he said.
She was today shifted to a corporate hospital where her condition was stated to be out of danger, the official said, adding that a case has been registered and efforts were on to nab the man and the autorickshaw driver.
Two persons were arrested for allegedly raping two sisters repeatedly over the past two months here, police said today.
The duo were held after the 20-year-old victim, who was working as an accountant in a tax-consulting firm owned by one Hiren Rajpara, lodged a complaint against him and his two friends Ali Hussain and Ashok Patel for sexually abusing her and sister, police said.
Of the three accused, Patel is yet to be nabbed, in-charge of Mahila police station G H Makwana said.
According to the complainant, Ali Hussain, a native of Jamnagar, raped her and threatened her with dire consequences, when she was alone in the office two months back.
When Rajpara came to know about the misdeed, he too started blackmailing her and raped her twice, following which Patel began misbehaving with her, police said.
The girl then went on leave for a few days during which her younger sister joined the firm. She too was blackmailed by Rajpara and Ali, who raped her, police said.
The principal of a missionary school was today arrested for allegedly trying to rape four minor students in Chhattisgarh's Sarguja district, police said.
"Wilson Toppo (42), the principal of Ashadeep Missionary school, has been arrested for attempting to rape the students, aged between 5 to 7 years, in Kalyanpur village under Darima police station limits of the district, based on the complaint of their parents," Sarguja Superintendent of Police Sundarraj P told PTI over phone.
"Of the four victims, two were studying in KG1 and two others in class I and II each," he said.
"According to the parents of the victims, the girls earlier informed them that the principal used to ask them to stay at school even after it closed for the day and later tried to sexually exploit them," he said.
State Director General of Police Ramniwas said they will take strict action against the accused.
"As I got information about the incident, I immediately told the SP to take stringent action in the matter. The SPs of the all districts have already been told to take immediate action in cases related to crime against women," the DGP told PTI.
Incidentally, several cases of sexual exploitation of minor girls in schools of the state have come to light after the Kanker-rape case, where 11 minor tribal girls were allegedly raped at a government-run residential school.
Chief Minister Raman Singh had earlier announced to set up fast track courts in the state for speedy trial in cases related to crime against women.
