Delhi: Man Held for Assaulting Girl With Rod, Rape Attempt

A man arrested for attempting to rape a girl and shoving an iron rod into her mouth has been remanded to 14-day of judicial custody by a Delhi court.

Anil Kumar, arrested for attempting to rape and murder a class XI girl after trespassing into her house in South Delhi, was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Amitabh Rawat who sent him to judicial custody till February 19.

"...On the request of the police, the accused (Anil) is remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. He be produced on February 19," the court said.

Twenty five-year-old Anil, working with a local power distribution company, was arrested by the police on February 5 after a case was lodged against him by the family members of the girl.

Anil had come to the house of the girl on Monday to night collect monthly electricity dues, the police has told the court, adding that since the girl knew him, she let him inside the house at Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi.

"After coming to know that the girl was alone at her house, he tried to force himself on her and assaulted her when she resisted," the police said.

Police said the man inserted a rod into her mouth when she shouted for help and resisted his attempt to rape her.

"She sustained severe injuries in her mouth and the attempted strangulation had left bruises all around her neck", police said.
