UP: Principal Beats Class 1 Student, Causes Eye Injury

In an instance of corporal punishment, a Class I student here suffered injuries in right eye after his school principal allegedly canned him for failing to deposit school fee.

Eight-year-old Jaydeep was caned by principal of A S Public School at village Kaser Kalan here for failing to pay one month's school fee, officiating SSP Srikant Yadav said.

The incident happened on January 30 but the complaint was registered today by his father Upendra Singh, SSP said.

The complaint has been forwarded to Narora police station here for further investigation, SSP added.

However, Satya Singh, the Chief Medical Superintendent of Govt Hospital here who today examined the boy ruled out any damage to the eye, adding Jaydeep had a minor bruise below the right eye.

Any corporal punishment in schools must be a crime and the offending teacher must be prosecuted as a criminal.
