Electricity to Cost More in Delhi From Feb 1
Delhites will have to shell out more money for electricity from tomorrow with power regulator DERC effecting upto three per cent hike in tariff to adjust the power purchase cost of distribution companies.

The hike will be three per cent for consumers of BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd while the increase for those getting electricity from Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd is 1.5 per cent.

"We have effected a three per cent hike in tariff for BYPL and BRPL consumers. The hike has been fixed at 1.5 per cent for TPDDL customers," DERC Secretary Jayashree Raghuraman told PTI.

The hike will come into effect from tomorrow for the next three months, following which DERC is likely to review the increase based on cost of buying power by the distribution companies.

The hike today came seven months after DERC had

increased the tariff by a whopping 26 per cent for domestic consumers.

Power distribution companies TPDDL, BRPL and BYPL had sought an increase in tariff by 2.80 per cent, 9.18 per cent and 7.47 per cent respectively citing increase in power purchase cost due to hike in fuel prices like coal and natural gas.

Power department officials said that power generation companies usually pass on the hike in fuel cost to its buyers which results in increase in power purchase cost.

Following the three per cent hike, a domestic consumer in BYPL and BRPL areas will be charged around Rs 3.81 per unit for first 200 units of power instead of current Rs 3.70 while Rs 5.66 will be charged per unit for consumption between 201 and 400 units against existing Rs 5.50.

Beyond 400 units for domestic consumers, the per unit charge will be Rs 6.70 against current Rs 6.50 for BYPL and BSES consumers.

For TPDDL consumers, per unit charge will be Rs 3.76 per unit for first 200 units of power instead of current Rs 3.70 while Rs 5.58 will be charged per unit for consumption between 201 and 400 units against existing Rs 5.50.

Above 400 units for domestic consumers, the per unit charge will be Rs 6.79 per unit against current Rs 6.50 for TPDDL consumers.

The hike will be applicable on fixed charges also for consumers of all the three distribution companies.
