Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reviewed the security situation in the Valley against the backdrop of two attacks on panchayat members in Sopore area of Baramulla district.
The meeting, that lasted nearly two hours, discussed the area domination and sanitisation exercise carried out by security forces in the vulnerable areas of the Valley, official sources said.
The meeting was convened by Omar after militants killed a sarpanch and injured a woman panch in separate attacks on Friday and Saturday.
The attacks have led to many Panchayat members from Sopore announcing their resignation before the media. However, government officials said they have not received any resignation so far.
The sources said the Chief Minister directed the police to carry out speedy investigations into the attacks on panchayat members so that assailants can be brought to book.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister visited SKIMS hospital here and met the injured Panchayat member Zoona, who was shot at by unidentified gunman yesterday.
Omar enquired her health conditions and prayed for her early recovery.
He also gave directions to the hospital administration for providing all possible medical treatment to her.
Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani accompanied the Chief Minister.
