WB Guv Sticks to His Remarks Despite Sharp TMC Reaction

West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan, whose comment that "goondaism" was taking place in the state drew sharp reaction from ruling Trinamool Congress, tonight said that he stuck to it.

"Of course, I stand by my comment," Narayanan told reporters here when asked if stuck to his yesterday's comment.

Despite criticism by Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee, Narayan replied "I speak the language of the Governor."

Earlier, Mukherjee told reporters at the state secretariat that "this (Narayanan's comment) was not expected of a constitutional head and it would act as instigation.

"Making such a statement publicly without calling for a report from the state government is not correct," the Panchayat Minister said.

Yesterday in a virtual indictment of West Bengal government, Narayan said 'goondaism' was taking place in the state and that the police should act impartially.
