Both Telangana Rashtra Samithi and Congress leaders from the region have decided to continue with their pressure tactics on the Centre till it took a favourable decision on the creation of Telangana state.

While the TRS politburo that met here tonight announced a month-long agitation programme, Congress MPs from the Telangana region met separately and decided to pursue the issue with the party high command.

Speaking to reporters, TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao asserted that "consensus" was not possible and the Centre should take a decision on the creation of a separate state as promised earlier.

"We want the Centre to keep its word and take a favourable decision for creating Telangana state. Had the Centre secured consensus when it merged the erstwhile Hyderabad state with Andhra in 1956?" he questioned.

KCR also lashed out at Congress, TDP and YSR Congress for starting a "new drama" on the statehood issue.

"Congress did not spell out its stand clearly on Telangana or announce a roadmap while the YSRC, too, remained ambivalent. TDP did not clearly say it is in favour of Telangana. It's trying to deceive people of the region once again," the TRS president alleged.A

The TRS would organise "Palle Baata" (village visits) in January as part of the pressure-building exercise.

Other agitation programmes too would be taken up through the month culminating in a public meeting at Wanaparthy in Mahbubnagar district on January 30.

Meanwhile, Congress MPs and other leaders from the region met separately to discuss the steps required to maintain pressure on the Centre on the Telangana issue.

They would hold further round of talks with ministers from the region on January 4 and go to New Delhi to present their case to the Congress high command.

"We want the Centre to take a positive decision within a month as promised," former MP K Keshav Rao said after the meeting.

The MPs are also said to be planning to resign from their posts if the Centre did not take a decision for carving out Telangana state.

On the other hand, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal ruled out bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

"The Congress' policy is constitution of a second States Reorganisation Commission to look into the statehood demands. I will quit politics if at all the Centre decides to create Telangana state," Rajagopal told reporters.
