A farmers body, spearheading the stir against release of Cauvery water to Tamil
Nadu, today opposed Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC)'s direction to four tmc of water to Tamil Nadu over the next fortnight.
G Made Gowda, President of Raithara Hitharakshana Samithi, said the state government should not release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu as the neighbouring state is experiencing heavy rainfall. "If Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar releases water to Tamil
Nadu, farmers will launch an agitation," he warned.
He also questioned state Chief Secretary's silence over the issue which only raised doubts in farmers' mind.
At a meeting of the CMC at New Delhi, Karnataka was asked to release four thousand million cubic feet
(TMC) of water to Tamil Nadu between November 1 and 15.
