Petition in Oz Parliament to Term 1984 Riots 'Genocide'
An Australian politician will table a signed petition in the Parliament this week which would ask the government to recognise the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in India as "genocide".

An official statement issued by federal MP Warren Entsch's office said, "The nation's Sikh community has enlisted the help of Entsch to have Australia recognise the November 1984 killings of Sikhs in India as genocide."

The issue was first raised by a Sikh Community member in Cairns, Daljit Singh.

"Every person on this planet who believes in equality and peace for mankind should support this," Singh said, adding "Justice delayed is justice denied."

1984 Sikh Riots is Genocide, but what about ethnic cleansing of Kashmir Pandits out of the valley,in Secular India by Congress-NC Governments in 1989-1990?

BTW, it is time we told other nations that we have a judiciary to mind our affairs.Let Australia and Canada come to terms with their imperial past and they have a fairly big past to mind.

Good , that is why our politicians will not seriously inconvenience each other over corruption issue. Or over sectarian killings. These are used as bargaining chips may be. Whatever justice finally comes to the victims is because of the sustained fight by the survivors and their supporters. It is sad that the first, even symbolic victory for the victims of 1984 pogrom should come in a foreign country as Male Unblocked would put it - "Justice system is dead in India"
