Questions on Robert Vadra Trigger a Political Storm
An allegation by civil society activists Arvind Kejriwal and Prashant Bhushan that Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra had been hugely favoured by realty major DLF today triggered a political storm with the Congress dubbing it as "baseless and utterly irresponsible" while BJP demanded a probe.

At a press conference here, Kejriwal and Bhushan alleged that Vadra had bought property worth crores of rupees between 2007 and 2010 with an "unsecured interest free loan" of Rs 65 crore from given by DLF.

They claimed that Vadra had secured the loan from DLF to companies floated by him and his mother with a seed capital of just Rs 50 lakh.

43-year-old Vadra, married to Priyanka Gandhi, was not in the capital and sources close to him said there was no reaction for the moment.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said that these are "baseless, misconceived and utterly irresponsible" allegations.

"Coming ahead of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections, it shows that the so-called civil society groups are morphing themselves as a political party but it is nothing more than a B-Team of the BJP," he told reporters.

A DLF spokesperson said the business relationship with Vadra is "completely transparent" and was conducted to "highest standards of ethics".

Kejriwal and Bhusan claimed an analysis of the balance sheets and audit reports of the five companies run by Vadra showed that they had no income from any legitimate business activity except the interest derived from the DLF's loans.

Demanding an independent probe into the whole issue, Kejriwal and Bhushan alleged that Vadra used the loan provided by DLF to buy 31 properties, including five flats from DLF itself with a market value of Rs 35 crore for a meagre Rs five crore.

They claimed that the market value of these properties was worth around Rs 500 crore.

The two activists, who have recently floated a political party, said the transactions of Vadra raised several questions, including why DLF gave such large unsecured loans and why should the company should sell its properties to him at throwaway prices on the basis of funds obtained from the real estate major.

They alleged that there could be quid pro quo between DLF and Vadra for favours to the company through Congress governments in Delhi , Haryana and Rajasthan.

On its part, BJP spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad accused the Congress governments in the National Capital Region of giving away huge chunk of land to DLF as a quid pro quo for benefits given to the son-in-law of Congress president.

He sought answers to questions as to why DLF should "dole out" flats and land to Vadra. "If DLF was doing charity to Vadra, then does it do similar charity to others?" he said.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, "We have not favoured anyone. We have given the land through through internatinal bidding to the highest bidder in a transparent manner."

Tewari said, "It is the worst kind of political chicanery. Those very forces that were responsible for attempts to malign Congress leadership in the 70s and 80s have now resurfaced in a new avatar.

Yesterday we had ample evidence on TV  that the Congress is really a family business working for the interests of Sonia Gandhi and her family and not for the interest of the  Country.

We had Law Minister of India tell us that 'we envy' Robert Vadra, his success, his ability to get crores of "unsecured" (NO collateral) interest freeloans  from a public listed company, his security exemption on grounds on being Sonia's son-in-law and so on.

Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan who used to be Congress spokesman (before Renuka Chowdary whose only defence these days against points made is hysterical laughter, gestures and few slang English phrases, while she waits for the moderator/journalist to come up with some semblance of a defence) apparently came out in 'defence of DEMOCRACY' . It is not enough that 'India is Indira or now Sonia, it is the concept of Democracy itself)

The various spokesmen tried to make the point of why no FIR has been filed - Ramdev is being investigated with no FIR, Kiran Bedia, Kejerival, Koodalkoolam anti-nuclear activists etc etc are being investigated without an FIR, but apparently even when a reputed newspaper like EconomicTimes 2 years ago documented Robert Vadra's rapid rise to wealth (which would put even Warren Buffet to shame) did not raise any eyebrows in various govt departments.

DMK first family's daughter Kanimozhi spent months in jail for the similar reason of unsecured loans from DB Group to Kalaingar TV.

Even Tehelka in Feb 5, 2011 had reported that land regenerated by afforestation was given to DLF for development of a recreation and leisure park for Rs. 1,700 crore. Environmental experts and land developers are shocked that the prime land was sold in callous disregard to environmental laws laid down by the Supreme Court regarding the Aravalli Plantation Scheme, in an attempt to restore the forests of the fragile hill range.

The scheme, "aided by the European Union", successfully rehabilitated degraded community lands of 294 villages in southern Haryana. Nearly 38,000 hectares was rehabilitated through planting and natural regeneration in the Aravalli region.

So Mr Law Minister, we don't 'envy' Robert Vadra for his fortuitous marriage, but in general we dislike the few people who prosper (to unimaginable levels) under a rigged system of patronage at the cost of crores of honest people trying to eke a living.

WHy should the COngress rebut, Mr.Vadra is not a primary member of the party. he is a private citizen and if allegations are made against him, he should take them on legally. I don't understand why the Ccountry's premier legal officer, the Minister for Law & Jusice Mr.Salman Khursheed had to appear on TV channels fervently supporting Mr.Vadra as uncorrupt. This just shows the sham nature of our politics and how the Congress Party is giving Monarchial status to the Nehru-Ghandy family. This is simply unacceptable in a democratic republic

This is what everyone knew in Gurgaon. Ask any property dealer in Gurgaon and he will tell the facts about relations of Robert Vadera and likes of DLF and Unitech.

Relationship between DLF and Gandhi family is not new. It goes back to Rajiv Gandhi.

Is anyone journalst has conviction to write what lakhs of people in Gurgaon know about these deals and understandings.

Bugger shame is that same people would vote for congress but why shouldn' they? so BJP or any other party fair better.

Shadow boxing between them is evident to all Indians.

Can BJP, media or any other party explain why they did not highlight cases highlighted by CAG other than coalgate;

1 - Delhi airport scam

2 - Reliance KG basin scam

(by the way reliance is a major stake holder in media companies and can influence at least 18 - 20 news channels)

This is first time a credible, intelligent and focused group of people have decided to take fight to people sitting beyond the reach of law.

Try to understand the dynamics of power. Those who enjoy it do not want to share it and take turn in looting us. Rest is shadow boxing

I am sorry for my cynicism but that is what our country deserves. I have relocated back to India in 2012 but shocked to see the moral degradation in our soceity. It was nice to enjoy holidays in India. I confused holidays with real like.  Had very high ambitions, enthusiams and willings to contribute in my little way.

Money money and money is the way of life in Indianow. We do not know what do we want and how much do we want and why do we want. But we just want money and at any cost. So why blame politicians.

It was certainly not that bad 10 years back.
