Amidst growing speculation that former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh might be headed to his parent party, senior BJP leaders today said that they would welcome his return to the saffron party.
"I would be very happy in case Kalyan Singh returns to the BJP," national vice president and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Katiyar told reporters here.
To a query on the issue, Rajnath Singh in Dehradun said that he would be happy if Singh, who has floated the Jan Kantri party after partying with BJP, returns.
"I will be very happy if Kalyan Singh returns," Singh, regarded as Kalyan Singh's detractor in the BJP, said.
Approached to comment on the rumours, Kalyan Singh evaded a direct reply saying that there is nothing as of now to speak on the issue.
With the 2014 Lok Sabha polls drawing nearer, the BJP appeared to have set its eyes on the prominent Lodha leader's re-entry with the belief that he, along with Uma Bharti, can attract non-Yadav OBC votes from rival political camps.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Jan Kranti party here today authorised its party chief to take a final call on the Singh's rumoured return to his parent party BJP.
The party's national president and Kalyan Singh's son Rajveer Singh will take a final decision on the issue along with its future and policy, party sources said.
Kalyan Singh, who is the patron of the party, said that a unanimous resolution to this effect was passed in the meeting.
"Several positive suggestions with regard to the prevailing political situation were put forward in the meeting backed by logic which were in keeping with the reality of politics," Singh said.
To a specific question on when the decision of his return to BJP was expected, Singh said it would be taken as soon as he "does not believe in delaying things".
Refusing to comment whether he was in touch with senior party leaders of the BJP, Singh said that some leaders and workers had called on him even yesterday as he had "personal and close relations" with them.
