Some of the best known names in Indian classical music will converge here for the Delhi Classical Music Festival beginning October 1 to propagate the traditions of the city.

The five-day music festival, part of Delhi Celebrates, will see performances by the legends -- 105-year-old Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan, Pt Jasraj, known for his renditions of Jai Hind and Tiranga, and Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma.

Ustad Shujjat Khan, Pt Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Ustad Imrat Khan, Pt Rajan and Pt Daya Shankar will also perform at the musical extravaganza.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will inaugurate the festival at Kamani Auditorium on October 1.

"Traditionally Music Festivals of yesteryears have always started with Dhrupad or the Been, the oldest and most serious forms of classical music. We have kept that tradition," said Anita Singh, vice chairperson of Punjabi Academy.
