NDA to Hold Nationwide Strike on Sep 20
BJP-led NDA will hold a country-wide protest on September 20 protesting against the central government's decision to hike diesel price and allow FDI in multi-brand retail.

Announcing the alliance's decision here, BJP leader L K Advani said "NDA today decided to hold a nation-wide strike on 20th of this month. I am sure that the suffocation felt by the people for a long time is about to come to an end."

Addressing the press with Sushma Swaraj and other senior leaders of the coalition, he said "it would be prudent and wise for the government itself to decide that they do not wait till 2014 for the people to give their opinion about the UPA government. Let them call for an early election. Let the people make a decision."

Stating that the government should be allowed to rethink over all its acts, the BJP leader said "if they are able to do that on their own by giving resignation-- the Lok Sabha elections are also due shortly-- I think it will be fine."

He said no political party's consent was taken by the government before making these announcements.

"They have not consulted any political party and Chief Minister and have announced this suddenly. This is something which the country is not going to take lying down," Advani said.

He said NDA leaders have talked "informally" to other political parties and "I think the 20th September strike will be spontaneous and successful".

"This is the betrayal of Parliament, people and thousands of traders in the country," Advani alleged.

Already for not allowing Parliament to function has hurt NDA rather more to BJP.
This new strike will hurt it more. Why BJP is squandering away the lead that it has got due to  the self tarring of the face by the Congress with various Scams ??

Just like opposition to Nuke Pact BJP must not any more  hurt itself  . Bharat Bunds don't help.

Success of NSUI should be a timely warning to BJP.

BJP has to oppose any Congress action that may boost the economy. Calling the BJP a "nationalist" party is a sad joke.

The Opposition should not inconvenience the public by holding demonstrations or strikes. Instead, it should point out the faults in the policy, as they would have done, had the government done it honestly by going to the parliament first. Instead, it has erred in giving an impression as if it is doing something at the back of the parliament. The FDI in multi brand retail is against the national interests and needs to be made clear to the public. It is not as if the farm produce shall reach the dining table directly without the middleman. The middleman Shall still be there, who will now be a foreign shop keeper replacing an indian one. The economic distortions it will cause; the business disruption it will cause in the cottage, tiny, micro sector employing more than 5 crore people; the micro financing it will destroy; the monopoly it will create (repugnant to the policy against Monopolies, Dominant & Restrictive Trade practices); unfair cartelisation hitting the competition law; the dislocation of the supply change with consequences etc are issues which should be debated by knowledgeable people in public rather than simply expressing anger or holding demonstrations or strikes etc. This is a danger with extreme long term fatal consequences to the poor people of India.
