MoEF Suspends Environmental Clearance of 93 Goa Mines
The Centre today suspended environment clearances of all 93 mining leases in Goa pending verification of documents in the wake of the Shah Commission pointing out that permission was given based on wrong facts.

The mine owners will have to submit their documents which are required for getting the environment clearances, Minister of Environment and Forest Jayanti Natarajan told reporters here.

Justice M B Shah Commission, in its report on Goa's illegal mining, had also pointed out that the ECs were given based on the wrong facts.

Natarajan said the ECs were given on the wrong facts submitted by the state government, which were not properly verified by the MoEF officials.

She said she will go into every aspect of the ECs granted and if any of the official is found guilty, action would be taken against him.

"We will see that he is punished according to the law."

Two days after the tabling of the Shah Commission report on Goa's illegal mining in Parliament on September 7, the state government suspended all mining leases and asked mine owners to approach the Directorate of Mines and Geology with proper documents.

According to Natarajan, the action by the Manohar Parrikar government was a "complete whitewash" and a "fraud" on the people.

"He (Parrikar) is trying to fool and whitewash by pretending he is taking action. Under which act has he suspended the permissions for all the 93 mining leases," she asked.

Referring to Parrikar's statement that FIR would be filed against former Congress chief ministers Pratapsingh Rane and Digambar Kamat, she alleged that the chief minister was involved in "political witch hunting".

She also claimed that the Justice Shah Commission during its inquiry had not heard MoEF.

"Although Shah commission has referred to MoEF in its report, we were never heard. Therefore it was not possible for us to present our fact before the commission," she added.

It looks like UPA has found a way to divert attention from a scam, a new scam. With coal gate, no one talks about 2G anymore. The Kalmadi and Common wealth game scam is all forgotten. Really smart.

As if the Coalgate was not enough now here comes The Iron Gate !!!

' ''Goa scam ran through PM's stint at environment ministry

NEW DELHI: Justice M B Shah Commission's indictment of the Union environment ministry for disregarding norms and Supreme Court orders to give clearances that facilitated rampant iron ore mining in Goa covers the period when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held charge of the environment and forests portfolio.

The commission's censure of authorities for letting the mines function for more than half a decade in violation of norms for environment protection applies to the two-year spell -- from May 17, 2007 to May 27, 2009 -- when Singh was in charge of the ministry. He was assisted by two ministers of state -- Congress's Namo Narain Meena and DMK's S Raghupathy. This was the period between the tenures of two Cabinet ministers -- A Raja and Jairam Ramesh.

Significantly, the Union ministry of mines in its Action Taken Report has asked the environment ministry to take action against authorities, including ministers involved. ""

The decision of the Ministry of Environment directly indicts the then Congress Govt of Digambar Kamat the CM and Mies Minister.

The suspension of clearences to Mie by Jayanti in itself makes the the CM guilty for prosecution.

The then Govt forwaded the Minig applications wiithout going into the specfics thereby willfully joinig in the loot.
