The International Maithli Council, Jamshedpur chapter, today expressed anguish over the indifferent approach of the Jharkhand government in granting second state language status to Maithli and said it would restart agitation for the status.
Addressing a press conference here, IMC president Laxman Jha and general secretary Promod Jha said the Maithili language had been recognized under the 8th Schedule of the Constitution and spoken by over 50 lakh people of Jharkhand. IMC leaders regretted that the state government continued to sit over the issue despite several legislators in the state Assembly raised the matter.
Jha said JMM supremo and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Sibu Soren had also assured of doing justice to the language, but nothing came off.
