Amir's Show on the Disabled Jolts Govt into Action
Weeks after Amir Khan in his TV series Satyamev Jayate talked about problems being faced by physically challenged children in getting admission in schools, Delhi government has decided to carry out a survey of such kids in the city to extend them educational facilities.

Officials said Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely has asked his department to launch a survey to find out the number of physically challenged students.

"Based on the survey result, the government will firm up a policy to extend all kinds of educational facilities to the physically challenged students," the officials said.

In a recent episode of the popular TV show, Khan had talked about the difficulties being faced by the physically challenged children in getting admission in general schools in Delhi as well as other cities.

IT IS AMIR KHAN's KARISHMA THAT WORKS !

SHOULD HE NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR ANOTHER CIVILIAN AWARD FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE COUNTRY.

HIS PROGRAMMES ARE WELL-RESEARCHED BY INDIA's THINKING ACTOR.

While its good that the government is taking steps, it baffles me that it took a TV serial to open their eyes. Does this mean the government recognises the problems citizens face only if it is aired on TV? What a joke our government is!

Will Aamir Khan focus on the scheduled castes and tribes facing insurmountanle discrimination and prejudice besides atrocities on them? May be the organizers will stop the show if he wants to take the issue on board.

Hi,

I watched your show on disabled children where all the parents insisted on putting their children in to normal school. But i would like to bring to your attention that there very few special needs school. I have 2 kids and both of them are autistic. They are border line autistic with very IQ but suffer in communicating with others and have lot of sensory issues which make them difficult to sit in normal school. I have sat with my children in their class for 2 years, sometimes inside and sometimes outside the class and at times near the gate of the school. They were not able to cope up with the environment. They were not able to write so i taught them to type on computer, but nearly 5 schools rejected taking their oral or computerised exam. I tried to get them addmitted to special schools but there are very few school in navi mumbai and the one in which i got were not satisfactory. Atlast i got admmission in UDAAN school, located in Jalandhar Punjab. I have moved from navi mumbai to punjab just for their schooling. It's very expensive. The principal is doing a very good job and with her help my kids will appear for 3rd grade exam. In Jalandhar there is no special needs school and the govt is also not supporting private school. I ask for ur help to shed light in these areas and help parents like me to see their children become successful and independent in their life. Though there are many govt policies of providing writer and special educator in normal school , even private one but seldom addmissions are given. The schools don't cooperate. Once a parent had asked me "why you wnat to educate ur children, do they have capacity?" at this I told her " My kids have the same right as yours for education and if tested my kids will fare 100 times better then yours". I have faced this problem in public transport, parks and public areas but I stand strongly behind them as I know one day they will fight for themselves the way I do for them now. I am proud mother. I know my kids have medical problem but if god has given life there must be a reason behind it and I know it must be for some good beacuse GOD can never do wrong
