CVC Refers Coal Block Allocation Case to CBI
The Central Vigilance Commission has referred to CBI the case of alleged irregularities in allocation of coal blocks to public and private companies which has brought the government under attack from opposition.

The CVC has forwarded the case to CBI for probing the alleged irregularities in coal block allocation process adopted by the Centre and related issues, sources said.

CBI officials, who are tight lipped about the reference issue, reportedly held a meeting today in which the issue was discussed in detail, sources said.

The meeting, which was chaired by the CBI chief, discussed all aspects of the reference received from the vigilance panel and also which branch should handle the probe, they said.

According to the leaked draft CAG appearing in the media, government's failure to auction 155 coal blocks between 2004-09 may have resulted in windfall gains to the tune of Rs 10.7 lakh crore to power companies, some of them PSUs.

The government had denied figures quoted in the leaked report and said there was no final report from the auditor.

However, the opposition and Team Anna had demanded a probe in the case.

BJP leader Prakash Javdekar has also made a complaint to the Central Vigilance Commission seeking a probe in the allocation of coal blocks by the government.

When contacted, Javadekar said "we have made a formal complaint to CVC because there were so may glaring lacunae which needed to be probed. If the inquiry has been ordered, it's good."

Outlook India : CVC Refers Coal Block Allocation Case to CBI
PTI | May 31, 2012

Investigation by CBI is per se inappropriate. The agency reports to PM,who has been targeted in the complaint. In order to maintain credibility, the CBI must carry out the investigations under the supervision of the Supreme Court. Alternatively, the Apex court may be urged to set up a committee of three retired judges of the same court. Any other course of action would be a travesty of justice.

Ganesan has shown bias while Deepak has shown maturity, yes the Bofors case was killed by all be it NDA or Congress.

Now about the CVC filing for a enquiry into Coal gate goes, the BJP should file a PIL in Supreme Court as in the case of 2G to have the case investigated and monitered by the Supreme Court.

>>Bofors died a natural death due BJP's negligence.

Yeah right! Fiasco in Argentina was done by the BJP! Withdrawal of red corner notice was done by the BJP. De-freezing Q's accounts was done by the BJP. IT tribunal issuing notice on bribe money received and government claiming that bribe as per IT act and CrPc are different - all done by BJP? It is astounding the lengths Congress apologists will go to absolve the corrupt.

Is BJP central leadership acting as a face saving tool for kangres? Instead of demanding for an independent probe they contacted 'puppet' CVC. If BJP is alive today the credit goes to state level party leaders and party workers. The central leadership looks threatened, weak and coward as if they are being blackmailed by Italian mafia.

Is it a fair probe or a face saving exercise? This corrupt manmohan will never allow an independent agency to investigate.

CAG has not submitted COALGATE report to gov. as yet. Anna team too did not approach CBI, So this is a suo moto decision by CVC. Which is trying to show that it is an independent institution but people know what it actually is. I'm sure some peon of PMO will be charged for this scam, in any case mannu is getting a clean chit by his puppet. Congrats!
