Guv Assent to Scrap Quota-Based Promotions
Uttar Pradesh Governor B L Joshi today gave his assent to an ordinance to scrap quota-based promotions for SCs and STs in state government departments on Supreme Court order.

On May four, the Akhilesh Yadav government had decided to bring an ordinance for repealing the existing law related to quota in promotions as the assembly session was not in progress.

"The Governor has given his assent to the Ordinance," a senior official told PTI here.

The Supreme Court in its order last month had upheld the Allahabad High Court's order to scrap quota in promotions.

The previous BSP government had decided to implement the quota for SCs/STs in recruitment as well as in promotions soon after assuming office in 2007.
