Former Congress MP from Yavatmal Uttamrao Patil passed away here this evening following a brief illness, family sources said.
Patil (69) had been admitted to a private nursing home, after he had fallen from a stage during a function in Yavatmal a couple of days back.
He had represented Yavatmal in the Lok Sabha for a record six times. However, he was defeated during the 2004 Lok Sabha polls.
Patil had recently joined the NCP ahead of the municipal council and Zilla Parishad polls.
Patil is survived by wife Susheela, a daughter and two sons Rajendra and Manish, sources said.
He was first elected to the state assembly from Digras constituency. His father Deorao Patil was a Lok Sabha member from Yavatmal for two terms and after his demise, Uttamrao had contested the LS polls and won six times.
Earlier, Patil was a member of the Yavatmal Zilla Parishad and also the president of the Yavatmal District Congress Committee. He was also the vice president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) for some time.
Patil's body will be brought to Yavatmal from Nagpur and will be kept for public viewing till around 10 am on Sunday. After that, it would be taken to his native village in Loni for the funeral, sources said.
