The remarks made by Press Council of India Chairman Markandeya Katju against the Nitish Kumar government for allegedly undermining the freedom of the press in Bihar was raised by ruling JD(U) during the debate on the budget in the assembly today.
As the debate began, ruling JD(U) MLA Izhar Ahmed raked up the issue saying Katju's statement was 'like that of a political activist.'
There was complete freedom of press in Bihar and Katju should have studied the situation in Bihar first before rushing to any conclusion, he added.
Congress member Javed said the budget was neither promising nor progressive and alleged that it would not come up to the people's expectations.
