Pak government replaces Law Minister
Islamabad, Aug 25 (PTI) Pakistan government today replaced Law and Justice Minister Wasi Zafar, apparently a fallout of the reversal it suffered over the suspension of the country's Chief Justice.

Zahid Hamid, the Minister for Privatisation and Investment, has been made the new Minister for Law and Justice, state-run PTV reported.

Zafar will take over as Privatisation and Investment Minister.

The channel did not give any reason for the change, but it is believed to be linked with the recent reinstatement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry by the Supreme Court, a major embarrassment to the regime of President Pervez Musharraf.

Sources said the Law Minister could not defend the government stand during the judicial crisis, which has weakened the position of government as well as the President.

Law Secretary Mansoor Ali Khan quit yesterday and had reportedly stated in his resignation letter that he can not continue in the present circumstances.

The government also reshuffled the top officials of Islamabad administration, the PTV reported.

Hamid Ali Khan was appointed as the new Chief Commissioner of the federal capital, replacing Khalid Pervaiz. Shahid Nadeem Baloch was appointed Acting Inspector General of Police in place of the incumbent Iftikhar Ahmed Chaudhry.

The changes are believed to be linked with alleged misbehaviour with the Chief Justice, who was suspended by Musharraf in March but was reinstated last month.
