Biti Mohanty must be hiding in the country: Rajasthan police
Cuttack, May 28 (PTI) The Rajasthan police team, which arrived here to arrest senior Orissa police officer B.B. Mohanty on the charge of helping his rape convict son Bitihotra jump parole, suspected the junior Mohanti could be hiding either in Orissa or West Bengal.

"We suspect that Bitihotra who did not return to jail (in Rajasthan) after being released on parole in November last, could either be in Orissa or in the neghbouring state of West Bengal", Virendera Jakhar, Station House Officer of Lalkothi police station in Jaipur, said.

Jakhar is also the investigating officer in the case relating to Bitihotra's disappearance.

Bitihotra, who was convicted of raping a German woman at Alwar in Rajasthan, was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment. Ever since, he jumped parole, his whereabouts has remained unknown.

While DGP Mohanty denied having any information regarding his son, the Rajasthan police said it strongly believes that the senior Mohanti helped his son to jump parole.

"We suspect Mohanti had been instrumental behind Bitihotra's disapperance", said Rajasthan police team leader Mukund Bihari, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

Asked why the Rajasthan police was going hard at the DGP instead of looking for his son who is the main accused in the case, Jakhar said it would not be difficult for the police to nab Bitihotra after his father is arrested.

The police officer also refused to subscribe to the possibility of Bitihotra having crossed the border to escape the police net.

"We are certain that Bitihotra is hiding somewhere in the country. May be in Orissa or West Bengal", Jakhar said.
