Mumbai, Mar 6 (PTI) Close on the heels of Indo-US agreement on civilian nuclear energy cooperation, Anil Ambani- controlled Reliance Energy today said it was in discussions with Nuclear Power Corporation to make an entry in the nuclear power generation.
"We need a public-private partnership for this. As the existing Act does not allow 100 per cent private sector participation, NPC has to hold 51 per cent and private sector can hold 49 per cent," Anil told reporters here.
Besides NPC, Reliance Energy is also talking to leading global players, including US companies, he said adding for private or foreign companies to come on their own the Act has to be amended significantly.
He, however, said that large number of companies were looking at this sector aggressively provided 100 per cent private investment was allowed.
Tatas, one of India's oldest business houses, too had evinced interest in entering the nuclear power arena should the government open it for private investment.
