The engineer from Andhra Pradesh, who was kidnapped by militants of the suspected outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in Assam, has been released from the captivity of his abductors.

P Krishna Rao, working as the Project Manager of Gayatri PCI (JB) company, was released by the suspected militants in Kokrajhar district, his wife said today.

"We have received information that he has been released. He spoke to me over phone. He told me that he is safe," Rao's wife Rajeswari said at their native place Gannavaram in Krishna district.

Rao is presently in the custody of police officials of Kokrajhar district and is likely to arrive at Gannavaram either by tomorrow or day after tomorrow, Rajeswari said.

Rao, working with Hyderabad-based Gayatri PCI (JB) company, was kidnapped from the construction site on NH 31 at Joypur under Kokrajhar police station in Assam on October 16.

Rao was reportedly abducted by five motorcycle-borne suspected NDFB militants, all brandishing firearms.

The company is engaged in construction of four-lane highway in lower Assam.
