Yeddyurappa had earlier in the day apologised to the people for the rebel MLAs's action and vowed to work unitedly for the flood-hit people.
Yeddyurappa to Stay as CM: Rajnath
The crisis in the BJP government in Karnataka showed no signs of resolution with the party tonight ruling out removal of B S Yeddyurappa as chief minister while the dissidents led by the Reddy brothers were said to be unrelenting on their demand for leadership change.
Top leaders of the party including its president Rajnath Singh met at the residence of senior leader L K Advani for two hours to discuss the crisis confronting its only government in the South after one of the brothers G Janardhana Reddy arrived here today and conveying the dissidents' demand.
Singh and Arun Jaitley voiced optimism that the crisis will be resolved soon.
"Definitely, definitely," Singh told reporters when asked whether Yeddyurappa will continue as the Chief Minister.
G Karunakara Reddy and his brother G Janardhana Reddy and B Sreeramulu--all ministers in the Yeddyurappa Cabinet -- are spearheading the campaign against the chief minister.
Arun Jaitley said, "We are in the process of discussing the issue with various MLAs, MPs and ministers and we are confident we will find a solution to the issue."
After the BJP leadership rallied behind Yeddyurappa, sources in the Reddy brothers camp said they are not willing to compromise on their demand for removing the chief minister.
Janardhana Reddy after meeting Jaitley said, "We have requested (the central leadership) to provide a better leadership in the interest of BJP in Karnataka."
BJP sources said the party was willing to discuss changes in the state Cabinet and transfer of some officials as part of a compromise formula. This too did not satisfy the Reddy brothers camp.
Yeddyurappa meanwhile offered truce with the rebels.
"We would forget all happenings (the dissident activities) in the last one week," he said. "I would speak to all those dissident leaders. I would correct all mistakes that took place in the government. I will go with everybody," the chief minister told reporters in Shirabadagi in Bagalkote district.
The rebel camp has been highly critical of Yeddyurappa's style of functioning, accusing him of highhandedness and ignoring them in the decision making process.
Yeddyurappa, who had earlier talked tough against the dissident ministers, said the party's central leaders told him the crisis would be over in a day or two.
"This is not the time to quarrel but to work together for the relief and rehabilitation works in flood-affected areas of north Karnataka," he said.
More than 60 rebel MLAs have been camping in Hyderabad and Goa, demanding Yeddyurappa's ouster, an action which has drawn widespread criticism for being pre-occupied with dissident activities when the state was struggling to cope with the worst ever flood disaster.
Yeddyurappa had earlier in the day apologised to the people for the rebel MLAs's action and vowed to work unitedly for the flood-hit people.
"In the backdrop of the happenings, as Chief Minister, I apologise to the people of the state. We will take care to see such incidents don't take place in future and will work unitedly for the people's welfare," he told reporters here.
