Narendra Modi Tests Positive for Swine Flu
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today tested positive for swine flu, two days after returning from a visit to Russia, and his condition improved in the day, a doctor attending on him said.
The BJP leader, who complained of cough, fever and body ache yesterday, has tested positive for the H1N1 virus, which has claimed nearly 200 lives in the country since the first fatality was reported in early August.
"During the day, his fever was under control, which suggests substantial improvement and no other complications were noticed," Atul Patel, one of the doctors in the expert team treating Modi, said addressing the media this evening.
According to Patel, the Chief Minister took complete bed rest today and was on liquid diet.
Modi has been kept in isolation at his residence where senior doctors are observing him round-the-clock. Officials said he will continue in isolation for a week and nobody, barring the doctors, are allowed to meet him.
A high-level delegation, headed by Modi and comprising senior officials of the State Government and senior industry representatives, returned from Russia on October 28 after a three-day visit. Subsequently, Modi complained of ill-health.
All delegation members, including Chief Secretary D Rajgopalan, Principal Secretary (Energy) S Jagdeesan and GSPC MD DJ Pandian, tested negative for H1N1.
Modi's public functions for the next week have been cancelled.

A government communique said several good wishes were received for speedy recovery of the Chief Minister.
Governor S C Zamir, senior BJP leader L K Advani, Opposition leader in State Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil of Congress, among others, have conveyed their wishes for quick recovery of Modi.
BJP workers held prayer meetings and 'yagnas' in various places in the state for quick recovery of the Chief Minister.
