Nepal's Maoists today issued an ultimatum to paralyse the government secretariat and flights at Tribhuwan airport, country's only international aerodrome if their demands are not met by November 1.

The Maoists, who are launching their second phase of agitation from November 1 by staging a torch rally said, "we will not allow any aircraft to take off (from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu) or any aircraft to land," reports Maoist mouth piece Janadisha daily.

Bringing government secretariat Singhdurbar to standstill and halting movement at the airport have been called on November 10, after a series of protest shows that include halting works at the District Administration Office and declaring the various regions as autonomous states.

The Maoists, which emerged as the largest party in the election last year and headed the government for eight months, want to bring President Ram Baran Yadav's controversial move to reinstate former army chief in parliamentary debate.

The Maoists that have been launching agitation for the past six month by blocking the Parliament proceedings in the pretext of maintaining "civilian supremacy" has now aimed at forming a new government under their leadership saying that the possibility of negotiation with the present government is dim.

The Maoist cadres had attacked former premier and Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and Irrigation Minister Bal Krishna Khand on Tuesday when they were heading towards a function in Chitawan district. However, Deuba and Khand escaped unhurt.

Their vehicles were damaged in the attacks. Deuba accused the Maoists of trying to impose authoritarian rule in the country and showing undemocratic behaviour one after another.

Talking to journalists in Chitawan he said that Maoists are threatening the other parties and trying to capture the government.

The Maoists are against development activities, he alleged adding that they had earlier destroyed the physical infrastructure of the country and now they are disrupting the House from passing the budget.
