Appeal for clemency for 11 sentenced to death

Bangalore, Nov 30 (PTI) The Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) today appealed to the government to extend clemency to 11 activists of Deendar Channabasaveshwara Anjuman sect, sentenced to death by a special court here in connection with the serial church blasts that rocked Karnataka in 2000.

"We will approach the President of India and Governor with a clemency petition for the 11 persons after receiving copies of the judgement," the council said in a release here.

A special court had yesterday awarded the death penalty to 11 and life imprisonment to 12 others.

All of them were convicted in connection with church blasts in the city, Hubli and Gulbarga in 2000.
