Dhule (Maharashtra), October 8 (PTI) The Maharashtra Government today announced financial aid of Rs. five lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured persons in the recent communal clashes here.
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh after visiting the riot-affected areas in the city announced the financial aid to the victims.
"The situation is still tense, but well under control", Deshmukh said and added that people with minor injuries will also be compensated with Rs 25,000 each.
"I have discussed the situation with representatives from both the communities and the government will soon start 'panchanama' of losses and then financial aid will be given to the victims", Deshmukh said.
Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal, who accompanied the chief minister, assured financial aid on behalf of the Centre also.
Jaiswal appealed to people to remain calm and assist the local administration in restoring normalcy.
He said priority is to establish harmony between both communities, and administration is trying its best.
Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, also the home minister, said stern action would be taken against the guilty.
There was a need for making stringent laws to curb mushrooming of banners at public places, he said.
When asked about the involvement of a police constable, who was caught with swords and arms in Devpur locality in Dhule yesterday, Patil said, an inquiry has been ordered and action will be taken against him, if found guilty.
However, curfew continued for the fourth consecutive day today, police said.
