Amritsar, Feb 19 (PTI) Eminent geneticists today recommended for establishing active Centers for Genetic Counselling and Diagnostics for genetic diseases in the country.
"The genetic diagnostic in general is very poor especially in the developing countries.
"There was an urgent need to expedite the efforts to empower the medical education to promote awareness regarding the genetic diseases," the scientists said at the three-day Fifth International Symposium on Genetics, Health and Disease here today.
More than 500 delegates from India and abroad are participating in the symposium.
The symposium was organised by the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar in collaboration with the Institute of Human Genetics, Berlin (Germany) and Department of Pediatrics, Brown University, USA.
