So the deification of the rape victim has started by naming a museum in Delhi. Then UP will follow suit.
It is wong to say that the victim "awoke the consciousness of the nation" by showing exemplary courage. The upper castes have taken it as a turning point. If she were not from upper caste, the country's upper echelons would have ignored the incident as has happened in hudreds of cases involving the dalit amd tribal women.
Her father should apportion some sympathy and demand justce for all those have hitherto suffered at the hands of beasts similarly. They too were equally bravehearts. Nobody ever surrendered to the rogues without fights.
YESTERDAY, I read in a Bengali newspaper that Mrs. Sonia Gadhi has assured to give a flat and a job to the victim's family. The Balia rape victim's father should demand similar favour be granted to all the dalit and tribal victims of rape as well. Else he would be insinuated of using an unfortunate incident for earning fortunes.
Besides, it would also appear that because she hailed from upper caste, the government is trying to appease the family and thereby the caste she belonged. This may sound pretty unfortunate but truth is this.
The 'dented and painted' women, as Abhijit Mukherjee, MP, Jangipur, Murshidabad, succinctly decribed the agitationists, jumped to the streets having full knowledge of her social standing euphemism for caste. Media too knew the victim's caste before launching extraodrinary hype for promoting her. Otherwise they do not do it as they did for any dalit or tribal or social underdog.
Roads, colleges, school, etc. will be named after her. It's a matter of time. Things will go too far and nothing will be deemed unsuitable.
