Communalism and corruption are two sides of the same coin. It is proven once again and I expect Team Anna to reconsider their agenda to include communalism as one of the chief evils to be combated as equal as corruption.

Hindutva/Brahmanavad politics is full of tricks and deceptions.

I have no sympathy for Baba Bangaru and I am glad that he has to pay the price for the betrayal.

But how ironic is that that this report is coming on a day when there is debate of Bofors scandal.

In our make believe country, one lakh bribe is more serious than 1,74,000 crores loss which is equal to zero. When a Dalit Bangaru Laxman is facing conviction, the fake Dalit ,Kancha Illaiah is busy organising the next Beef festival.

He didn't take bribe. He became victim of a planned conspirancy. The conspirancy was carefully planned by Congress. He was not holding any authorised position in military. So there was no question of he brokering the arms deal. There was no deal. A fake deal was planned just to catch him in a trap and he got cought in it. Overall this was a fake bribery case for a fake deal.

As against, Bofors was a real deal and real bribe was paid in this deal. In this deal, as much as Rs. 64 cr bribe was given in 1986. This is equilavalet to Rs. 200 cr in 2001. Laxman was given Rs. 1 lakh in 2001. So, u can c the difference. Bofors agents have got clean chit but this poor fellow was fooled.

How come Tahleka never done any sting operation against any Congress leader till date? Why has Tehlaka not done any sting operation since last 5 odd years? Is it because now Congress can rule safely rule till 2014? I'm sure that Tehlaka will once again do similar operation against BJP leaders in the beginning of 2014 so that BJP's image can go down.

The bribery case was

Only a couple of days ago, Tahleka was criticizing "Hidden Camera" trick played on Mr. Singhvi and today same Tahelka is doing rain dance, thumping its chest for this conviction.  Of course, any conviction of a corrupt person is a welcome sight whether Brahamanwad is responsible or a Dalitwad responsible for it.

Apart from Banguru's offence and its punishment, it needs to be considered whether this kind of sting is justified. Prima facie it falls in the category of "seduction" and "abetment" to crime. The TV channels should capture only what is happening rather making it happen. Their activism is dangerous. Most of them are blackmailers, who respect neither the law nor the norms. They enter the offices of officers and other VIPs without prior appointment, take the liberty of asking all kinds of questions without revealing their true identity and operate under fake identity. All such acts are unlawful. They have everything - cameras, recording instruments and even witnesses whereas the officer contacted has no such facility. His position is compromised, especially when the operation is paid or motivated. What proof is being demanded from the Chief of the Army in the 14 crore bribe offer? How should he provide evidence? Officers and other authorities are supposed to be public servants, who have to extend all courtesies to the visitors. This ugly and unlawful practice proves costly to the honest officers sometimes, besides equating them  with the unresponsive officers, who might have learnt from experience to be unresponsive. Ultimately it is the aam aadmi who suffers. Abusing the femininity of their lady employees to employ charm offensive is as bad as money offensive. Working in a system as corrupt as that of India, there is hardly any honest officer who is not under terrible stress and in any such moment the TV crew can exploit any situation. See the Hindi film Gangajal as a documentary on the decadence in the extant administrative culture in India, including the national capital Delhi. By now the whole India knows about the frailty of the media men and women and has lost faith in their integrity after the Radia tapes and the unseemly attacks on the Army Chief. The media should not be allowed to enjoy the privilege of seducing any public servant by use of wine, women or wealth in any inappropriate manner. They are  the same media that has failed to expose the misdeeds of MPs bribery case in the Manmohan Singh government or PVN Rao government(JMM) vote of cofidence case. They trade in character assassination (Rajiv's in Bofors case) etc. They happen to be the overpampered class: discretionary allotments out of Government residences in Lutyens Delhi and all state capitals, plots/houses built by the state Housing Boards like the DDA,all those things coming under the licence quota permit regime. They are given heavy gifts for covering official functions. The list is so big that it will take very long to put it on record. Such operations are justied only if the media practices the same honesty it expects from the public servants. Radia tapes don't indicate to that. And Tehelka or Aniruddh simply fell silent after trapping poor Bangaru who didn't understand their sly ways. How do I respond to a Pakistan spy, who is not at all different from my own country men, visiting me and offering services or goods of his company and seeking my help? I may have to show some extra consideration to him only because he comes from the minority section of our society. I can only compare the sting operation to the Tantriks exploiting simple folks and committing crimes to their person or property. It must end. There is nobody who can not be seduced. Even Anirudha should not disagree if he remembers the Mohini offensive of Lord Vishnu on Lord Mahadev or saint Viswamitra. Would he offer to undergo chastity test of that high order?

Despite resources and power, police and CBI could have never gather evidence to expose corruption like this. It is unfortunate that Supreme wants to limit media freedom. Not stopping there, now they want to ban press reporting from court rooms. This is emergency in offing.

Of course precisely no room for any corrupt in the society, the CBI clamouring that the man in question was convicted; perhaps first punishment in CBI cases right from its inception - I hope, but it will reach extolment once they could convict corrupt cong leaders which by no stretch of imagination could be achieved if the struggle Swamy encounter is any indication

It is strange that the CBI shows its efficiency only whjen it comes to dalit opposition political leaders. In the case of the Bofors where there was massive corrution which has now been reconfiormed by Mr Lindstrom. the CBI ensured a foo;lproof cover up. It appeard ythat the BJP is being targetted in order to divert attention from the massive corruption that has become the norm in the UPA administration. Raja, Madhu Koda, now Bangaru Laxman all dalit or tribal leaders alone are the vivtims of the CBI, Is the CBI being selective in its approach.

Bangaru Laxman, the Dalit face of the BJP, was trapped by a Congress friendly media outfit called Thelka accepting cash to the tune of Rs 100,000 for favouring an entity called Westland. It turns out that there was no such defence deal and that ther whole episode caught on camera was only play acting. Corruptiuon as defined by the law involves giving a bribe to a public servant for obtaining tangible gains. When there was no deal and the reporters were only pretending to be defence contractors then no publiic interest was affected in the whole fictitious transaction. In fact if Bangaru Laxman can be convicted then the 2 journalists involved must also be proscecuted for induling in bribery of a public funtionary. I think the whole episode reeks of entrapment and Bangaru Laxman, though not innocent certainly cannot be called the only guilty party. It appears that the quantum of punishment was set high so as to deny him bail. I feel such vicious political proscecution will undermine peoples faith in the judiciary which must be seen to be above board. Now contrast this to the Bofors case. In that case, it has been established above any reasonable doubt that bibes were givnen in the form of " winding up charges' to the tune of 64 crores. It is known from investigation from Sweden, India, Switzerland and other parts of the world that the money trail led to Quatrrochi, an Italian known to be close to the resident non-Indian first Dynasty of India, the Gandhis. Yet, the CBI being a piable politicasl tool did not conduct any reasonable and sustained investigation so much so that after 25 years not a single conviction has taken place. Furtehr even in the 1984 anti Sikh riots organised by the cngress party, the CBI has been able to file the charge sheet against Sajjan Kumar only last month. This shows that the CBI operates on the basis of political pressure. When there is a real and tangible case of corruption then the CBI and the Courts are unable to act. However when there is no case of corruption based on public interest as is the case with the bangaru Laxman episode the CBI and the coutrs are quick to convict. Bangaru Laxman incriminated himself and self incrimination is not admissible evidence. Furtehr, the Courts must be sure that public interest was affected by the act of bribe taking. In this case no public ionterest was affected as there was no defence deal. Henc there was no corruption. Entrapment is not a judicially permissible method of evidence gathering. Laxman at best was guilty of an indiscretion and I wonder why the Thelka "journalists" are not brought into the judicial priocess as "bribe givers". In this case we have judicial overreach. Thelka thinks that the Abhishek Manu Singvi CD is not evidence of misconduct as they want to protect the image of their paymasters, the Congress, while pioor Bangaru Laxman is found guilty. I venture to say that this judgement will be set aside during the appeal. Why is it that only dalit and tribal politicians are convicted. We have Raja, Madhu Koda, now Bangaru Laxman all of whom belong either to the SC or ST category. A Karunanidhi or Sonia Gandhi seem to be above the reach of law.

Mr Bangaru Laxman's fault was that he was naive and perhaps did not quite have the calibre to be the party president. From what I have seen on the video, he made no promises and apparently took the money as a gift for the party fund. Not appropriate, true. But can anyone tell me how all the political parties raise funds even for legitimate purposes? Is all money accepted only by cheque? Who funded (and is funding) Sonia Gandhi's treatment (along with her entourage) in US?

From a legal perspective, it appears that this is a case of judical overreach and is likely to be quashed by a higher court.

As for Tehelka, they have a reputation for doublespeak and dubious integrity.
