They have learnt no lessons even after their decimation. There is no space for any third, unless it is a third class thing. India can afford only a two party system. The left is guilty of fanning communalism, feasting on the fears of the muslims having been reduced to a minority after independence. It camouflaged its malvolence towards the people and greed for power by professing to be followers of Karl Marx. Does anybody believe them to be Marxist sanyasis anymore? All those intellectuals of the decades of the 50s & early 60s, who came under the spell of the leftist rhetoric, found their leaders as communal, casteists and parochial as any other political party. They have the dubious distinction of ruining two wonderful states of the Union of India(UOI), viz; West Bengal & Kerala. They have preached violence, as agaist non-violence preached by Mahatma Gandhi. Now that their policies have failed completely they should close shop and humbly join one of the two national parties as per their liking. Their actual participation in governance is bound to make a valuable contribution and atone their sins of standing in the progress of the nation. Instead of wasting energies on the third front, whioch will depend on the mercies of the worst criminals, as the Congress's alliances and BJP's flirtations have amply proved. The only justification for being a leftist is to deliver service to the aam aadmi at least cost.

.....and the mighty left (with its future dozen MP seats?) will form the nucleus of such formation and Comrade Karat will be the PM candidate?

Every party will have a PM candidate in this utopia called the Third Front. And, if they have to negotiate, they will make a piecemeal of the country.

The cynical thing about it is that they will end up playing into the hands of the corrupt Congress.

Curiously this 3rd front dream surfaces just before elections and remains a dream thankfully.

We need a second party standing for democracy, secularism, economic growth and fight against corruption. We already have a third party, the BJP.

Anwaar >> We need a second party standing for democracy, secularism, economic growth and fight against corruption.

I assume that you are trying to tell that we have the first party - Congress which stands for all you said and we need a second party that also stands for all that you said.

For your wish to materialize the following should happen - Sonia G declares emergency and rewrites constitution whereby elections can be fought only by two parties. The two parties shall be respectively Congress (Rahul) and Congress (Robert/Priyanka).

If this happens, you should be mightily pleased ....
