The telecom companies are sure to pass on the extra extra cost due to auction to the consumers. Telecom rates in India is currently cheapest in the world. Now it will be most expensive, if the industry is still around.

But don't worry. Old good P&T phones will be there. Back to future. At least it will work for the judges.

Where is Kapil Sibla - Zero loss scam Minister!

Ordinary Indians owe a debt of gratitude to Swamy for having fought a battle against all odds.   We need more people like him for the fight against the corrupt, powerful and their cronies to have a chance of success and act as a deterent for others.

We still have a long way to go to punish the guilty and more importantly get the  loot back.

One only has to remember Bofors case to know that the corrupt like Quattrochi with connections manage to get a clean chit and the loot money.

This judgement is a vindication for the PM and his PMO as it does not accuse him of any wrongdoing. As PM, MMS has so many things to do that he cannot possibly ensure that members of his cabinet do not act in an unconstitutional and arbitrary manner.

Who are these trumped up jacks in office called Ganguly and Singhvi to say that the democratically elected government under the divine supervision of Madam Sonia Gandhi could possibly be unconstitutional or arbitrary. After all it is coalition dharma which determines what is constitutional and not some stupid document written 62 years ago by a bunch of bufoons who had no idea how the real world must function.

Bonita - tongue in cheek, I am sure.

It is tragic though that the one example of infrastructure that worked quite well (not to mention cheap too) could possibly be undone as Rajesh (Phoenix) points out.

A very serious black mark on Congress Govt that too in middle of the UP Campaign.
The stand has been now taken by the senior Ministers that they followed the Policy of BJP Govt's First come First served has been already thrown out by the SC .

SC has asked the Govt to sell the Licenses through an auction. There is further welfare direction that the 50 % profit received should be equally distributed for well fare of Retired Defense Personals and and remaining 50 % Profits be spent for the poor .

Price of telecom services is determined by competition and not on the basis of cheap grant of license through FCFS as is being argued by so many here. In the current 2G case, services became cheap despite the fact that the license winners like Unitech and DB sold off stake 7-8 times higher to foreign buyers.

Ordinary Tamils should open their eyes and know who is their real friend. They owe thanks to Subramnyam swamy for redeeming  some of the their lost pride,. Its not the crooked Karuna or his cohort Raja or the wry smile PC who are the role models for their children.

So now we have some judges deciding the economic policy of India. First they decided how Babri Majid/ Ram Janambhoomi land would be divided between the contending parties without bothering to understand the history or archeology. Then Supreme Court judge decides  how the government  fight naxals in places where Supreme Court writ doesn't work.

And now it tells the government how economic policies have to be implemented. What is this whole talk about the 2g auction? If there was an auction, no one knows what different future would be of telecom industry. Which economist was consulted by Supreme Court to base its decision to cancel the licenses.

But what about the `1.76 lakh crore loss to the exchequer ? The cancelled licences may be auctoned. Would the beneficiaries of the Raja  licences who obtained it throuch improper means  be permitted to participate in fresh auctions? ( There is a practice called black listing ) . They must have already recovered many times more than what they spent to obtain illegal licences. Would they be permitted to go home with the booty. And would those who traded off the licences in the name equity infusion & in no time reaped a huge bounty be permitted to retain their trading profit ?

This is a welcome judgement but it treated Manmohan Singh , his cabinet, bribe giving corporates with kid gloves & put a discount honest business practices. Mere cancellation of licences will not be sufficient deterrent.

After this stinging rebuke, there is an increased chance that the govt shall

1. Resort to more minority pandering, trying to consolidate a solid vote bank.

2. Try to give more freebies to buy votes.

Both shall be sad developments for the country, but then national interest has always been tertiary to family interest for the Congress.

Is that all you took from the judgement that slammed the govt, faulted the implementation due to which a minister is in jail, and canceled the licenses?

One may not be able to fool all the people all the time, but one can always fool a jehadi.

Do we remember what the TOI specialises in? Paid news. I used to earlier think that Mr.Anwaar was a fair person, and only opposed the communal elements. But having observed his various posts over a period, I know agree with all those who call him a spokesperson of the Congress party.

" the headline in TOI reads, "Supreme Court finds tono fault with Manmohan, Chidambaram in 2G allocation." Your rejoicing was premature!"

Just goes to show the ignorance of TOI and those who read it!!

As far as PC is concerned, the SC has simply deferred the issue to the trial court. It did not go into the merits or otherwise of Swamy's arguments. So the issue of finding fault does not arise at all.

And as for Manmohan Singh, he is not (yet) in the legal loop. His role in the episode will come only after PC comes into the legal ambit. SO again, there was no occasion for the SC to examine the activities of Manmohan Singh.

It now depends on the trial court judge. If he accepts Swamy's plea, then PC is gone. If he rejects Swamy's plea, both PC and PM are in the clear.

Excellent editorial in Pioneer

The Congress’s stunningly crude attempt to ward off charges of complicity need to be countered with three indisputable facts. First, the Prime Minister, it is now well-established on the basis of documentary evidence, was fully in the know of what Raja was up to. Yet he not only chose to turn a Nelson’s eye to Raja’s criminal misdeeds in Sanchar Bhavan but also defended him and his actions on more than one occasion in Parliament.

Most people don't understand the implication of this verdict. The court cancelled 2008 licenses because it was the case in hand. All licenses in service today were granted using first-come-first-serve policy and they are all eligible for cancellation. This is big reset for the entire telecom industry. Unravelling of India's most dynamic industry. Back to future to the P&T phones. But judges will happy because they will be among few privileged ones having phone.

Sure government will make some money through auction and they will do what it does best. Waste.

Why blame Mr.Raja, he was just a poor minister, it was his office who cheated him and the nation. Hence Mr Raja must be vindicated and released. Even Mr Kalmadi deserves similar vindication.
